TYPEWRITER - ENERGY
2001
Typewriter Energy was an exhibition at The Nexus Foundation in Philadelphia, 2001. The exhibition showcased Miyamori’s washi-covered typewriters using tree rubbings from sites around Philadelphia. To create connections between visitors and the original tree sites, Miyamori readied the typewriters with ink and invited the audience to use them to write whatever they had in mind. The result was a collection ranging from full poems and daily musings, to gibberish from the fascination of the nostalgic keys. Local poets were invited for an interactive poetry reading using the material typed, open to their own interpretation.

“The objects wear Washi like a second skin that is a metaphoric
Representation of an essence that links all life forms
What is transferred from object to paper is the very Soul of the natural object”
